Moisture and gets trapped around the rubber leaf spring bushings, while sand, salt and mud gets trapped inside the hollow frame rails, usually resulting in total rust-through all the way to the spring mounts. Wranglers have weld-nuts inside the frame rails that secure the transfer case skid plate in place. The skid plate also is the transmission and transfer case mount. Typically the bolts are a problem to remove due to rust on the inside of the frame rail. When this happens, access holes are often cut unto the side to facilitate removal of these bolts. Wranglers have rubber body mounts that help isolate road noises, chassis flex and vibrations from reaching the driver. We have found these rubber mounts contribute to the rust formation on top of the steel frame to body mount.
